Video: Jenna Lumbard, non-verbal autistic author.

--

Born with autism, Jenna Lumbard could not always understand what was said around her. She never developed speech, but she learned to read very quickly and devoured all the books she was given. She created stories and poems in her head from the words she had read. In second grade, she learned to use a keyboard with the help of a facilitator who sat at her side, touching her elbow. This newfound skill unlocked her world, presenting her with the tool she needed to share her unique gift of writing. She was able to express her love for the world around her both in poetry and short stories. Her desire has always been to write a book to share with the world. Her hope is to encourage children to soar in spite of any obstacles they may face.

Her book Worried Wendy Goes to School is available here.
