Hanging out with my dad
Haley M. Myles
Dads have a huge role to play in every child's life. Every dad is unique. For me, my dad is a role model. On Sundays, my dad and I go out to eat brunch together. On Thursdays, we watch "My Name Is Earl" together on television. Those little things have a huge impact on my life.
Although it has taken me a while to realize this, I now know that whatever I am going through, my dad has been through it, too, so he's the perfect person to go to for advice. Here is a list of what it takes to be a great dad:
1. Listen to your kids.
2. If you think your kid has done something silly or something that doesn't make sense, try to figure out why.
3. Don't get mad over small things. Take a deep breath and walk around the block if you think you are going to get mad at your kid.
4. Love your kids. They love you even though they don't always show it.
5. Have fun with your kids. Even small things can be fun. Watching hot air balloons rise, taking the dog for a walk -- whatever you do can be great fun
