Educational bullying

Haley M. Myles

There are many types of bullying. Some can be using cruel words, physically harming someone, shunning, and educational bullying. Kids might gossip, exclude someone from sitting with them during lunch, and trip others. Educational bullying is when a teacher or a principal bullies students.

I had a teacher in sixth and seventh grade who bullied me and other classmates. I hated the classes that she taught just because I had to be in the same room with her. The worst part was that I had her for three classes a day.

Mrs. Smith would use sarcasm, blame us for ridiculous things, and would yell at us. One time I was with my friends in the hallway, standing silently in a straight line against the wall, waiting to go into our next class. My friend, Sherry, and I saw something really funny so I turned around and smiled at her. As soon as Mrs. Smith saw me turn around, she barked at me, “Haley, don’t talk to your friends while waiting!”

“I’m sorry, I was just smiling,” I replied. Mrs. Smith yelled back, “Well then, don’t smile!”

Of course, this was a ridiculous rule, but I knew that I could deal with it if I had to. Another time, I was rocking forward in my chair when she came behind me and pushed the chair in such a way that I could have easily fallen off of it.

There were a few bad times like those, but most of the time I just thought, Even though I don’t like her, I can deal with this for a few years.

If you have teachers like this, tell your parents why you think the teacher uses educational bullying. Your parents can talk to the teacher or the principal for you. Having your parents there with you can help your parents stand up for you.

Remember, with any kind of bullying, it can be stopped, but you have to find someone to take action for you.
